WOODSIDE'S MISSION STATEMENT

Constitution

Founded in 1975, Woodside Football Club is one of Leighton Buzzard’s oldest established teams.

We believe that everyone should have the same opportunity to play football regardless of ability. Every player gets the same opportunity to play in games as a reward for their commitment, hard work and discipline during training and coaching sessions.

To support this, we have a clear recruitment policy that states that no new player can replace an existing player in a team.

We believe that the foundation of individual and team success starts by developing our team managers, enabling them to deliver the highest possible standard of coaching to every player which ultimately helps the team to achieve their maximum potential.

To support this, we arrange and pay for all new team managers and coaches to attain their FA Level 1 coaching badge.

We believe that while wining matches is important, we don’t agree with winning at all costs. It is about inspiring players, developing and rewarding players for their commitment and being able to compete at a high standard against other teams.

To support this, our Club’s moto is Inspire, Develop, Compete which is enshrined in our Mission Statement (see below).

Mission Statement

Our Club Constitution clearly sets out our philosophy and ethos as a football club. Our Mission Statement takes this one step further and expands on how we make this come to life for players and team officials every time they represent the Club in any capacity.

Inspire

Inspiration is something that gives you the energy and determination to succeed; inspiration is contagious and comes not from just winning, but from losing, drawing, taking part and simply wanting to be the best you can be for your team mates and friends. From your child’s very first training session, we will nurture your player, continually assess their ability, coach them as individuals and teach them the basic skills and behaviours required to give them the best chance to succeed. Very few players will become professionals, but we will inspire them to achieve their full potential.

Develop
As your player progresses they will continue to develop their skills and agility on the ball and improve their understanding and ‘reading’ of the game off it.   We concentrate on four key areas which are based on FA principles. These are: physical strength (for example movement, balance, agility and coordination), technical ability (for example running with the ball, passing, shooting, defending and ball control), social and finally physiological development (for example communication, teamwork, discipline and decision making). As your player develops in these areas, they will instinctively develop the key skills required to become a confident and competent football player.

Compete
Many football clubs that have a ‘play to win’ mentality and do so to the detriment of their other team mates. Equally, “It’s the taking part that counts” doesn’t teach players the key objective of any competitive sport or activity which is to win.  So we choose to “compete to win” in a way that is inclusive and offers equal opportunities to all players who show commitment and a determination to improve. It doesn’t ultimately matter if the team win, lose or draw; if all the players have competed to the best of their ability then they’ve probably had a great competitive game.
